Swedish tourist Anette Aberg, age 68, drowned on Sunday 5 February 2012 on Long Beach, Krabi. Police suspect an underlying illness to be the main cause of her death. The initial investigated revealed that she had gone swimming alone. About 30 minutes later, the body was founded in the sea about 10 meters from the beach. Other tourists at the beach took the body up from the sea and made CPR but was unable to revive her.

With 62.6 percent of the vote conservative front-runner, Sauli Niinistö, was Sunday elected for the 12th President of Finland. The new president has had a life marked by ups and downs. In 1995 he lost his wife in a car accident, and, as we wrote on Thursday, in 2004 Niinistö managed to survive the tsunami in Thailand as he, in collaboration with his son, clinging to a tree while the tsunami raged.

Besides his passion for motorcycles, Danish Ambassador to Thailand Mikael Hemniti Winther wants to demonstrate the importance he places on road safety. The ambassador is joining in a Bangkok-Phnom Penh motorcycle trip to raise awareness about road safety. The five-day "Go4 Charity ride" will start on February 15.

Less than 24 hours after Chinese firm Youngman reportedly placed a bid for Saab, another interested party has apparently joined the race to snap up the bankrupt carmaker. Mao Hai, vice president of Beijing Automotive Investment BAIC, told the website ttela.se that the Chinese automotive giant is keen on buying up what remains of Saab possibly in a joint deal with Panasonic, to produce electric cars.

Recently, The Jakarta Post ran a report about the Education International (EI) consortium, whose five members (Australia, Japan, Norway, Sweden and the US) have pledged their commitment to strengthen the Indonesian’ Association (PGRI) nationwide and to make it an independent association through financial contributions. The financial support from these countries ostensibly augurs well for the enhancement and independence of the association, because the aid is badly needed by developing countries like ours where poverty severely impedes the endeavor to provide quality education. Last week Swedish telecom giant Ericsson shocked the market when it reported a profit drop of 77 percent. Now Reuters says that when Huawei Technologies posts its annual results in April, they will likely show the unlisted Chinese firm has overtaken Sweden's Ericsson as the world's top-selling telecoms equipment maker.

The Danish EU Presidency 2012 was officially launched in China today by Friis Arne Petersen, Ambassador of Denmark, together with Markus Ederer, EU Ambassador to China, at the EU delegation in Beijing. At the press conference the Danish Ambassador outlined the focus areas for the Danish Presidency which are: A responsible Europe, a dynamic Europe, a green Europe and a safe Europe.
